This policy relates to the use of personal computers, most likely laptops, which are brought into the school for work use, and require access to the school network, school server(s) and printers/copiers.
Principles
It is the responsibility of the owner of the computer/laptop to ensure it's safe & ethical use within the school.
OHS cannot guarantee the safety & integrity of personal computers used within our school.
While the owner of personal computer has the overall responsibility for the use of the personal computer, the school's staff will help with the safe & productive use of the laptop to promote teaching and learning.
Procedures
When staff and/or visitors to the school require their personal computer/laptop to access the school network, they should in the first instance contact Kylie Pay, the school technician to have the personal computer / laptop checked for suitability.
The personal computer/laptop will need to be (as a minimum requirement):
Free of viruses & malware,
Free of material which may compromise the integrity of the school, its staff or students,
Free of software which is malicious, breaks copyright, or will interfere with the integrity of the school network (incl. hardware & software components)
Running current operating system, anti-virus and anti-malware software.
Kylie will then add the personal computer to the 'domain', which allows access to the school network, drives and hardware such as printers.
The computer will then require the user to log in using the username & password provided (which is that same as that used with any school computer). Please note that this logon does not work when the personal computer is outside the school network.
